Mark Dickens
Having studied a broad range of artistic practices including photography, printmaking and ceramics, Mark Dickens then graduated with a degree in illustration from Preston University. However, he always felt a painter at heart, so chose to pursue this avenue of his work. His paintings are a combination of elements: a personal visual response to what he has seen, a passion for the process of painting itself and an effort to convey his love for the subject in which he deems to be the most aesthetically pleasing way possible. Through the use of strong line and flat, plain colour and texture, he feels that he has created something unique every time a painting leaves the studio. “I’ve always felt that painting and playing a musical instrument are comparable in the sense that the more you practice the better you become, and feel nothing beats losing yourself spent hours engrossed in a painting”.
