David Wheeler was born in Notting Hill, London, in 1952. He studied and graduated from Paddington College. David now lives and works on the stunning north Cornish coast where he spends his days immersed in his studio. In the last ten years, this very popular artist with his entirely recognisable style has exhibited all over Europe and the USA. David takes is subjects from real life depicting the city as a vital economic hub. The energy and movement emanating from his paintings give us the city experience not only as he sees it, but also as so many of us experience it. Similarly, in his enchanting landscapes he captures the mood and spirit of the location, as well as the luminosity and colour of his favourite areas in Provence and Tuscany. Influenced by the impressionist and colourist developing his own individual style with vibrant colours, textures in oils to give each painting its originality. The challenge for his future work. All his original paintings are available to order and may vary very slightly from images seen.
For over ten years my work has focused on the exciting skies and weather moods found in places in Britain where earth, water, air and light meet. This has taken me largely to western locations on the Pembrokeshire coast, North Cornwall and the banks of the River Severn, Gloucestershire. My paintings are spontaneous responses to the dance of light and the ever-changing dynamics of the elements.
For several years now, my focus has been inspired by a series of eight journeys to the extreme cardinal points of the UK mainland over the course of a year. Based on the Wheel of Life as found in many cultures, the timing of each journey coincided with the Celtic and Christian festivals that celebrate the changing seasons and inspire inner activity. I gathered the local sand to use in my paintings along with what has become my signature material, the River Severn mud.
Within this structure of polarities and cycles I found a huge freedom. It was my intention to perceive the essence of each specific compass point as well as the time of day and year it related to. The result is an extensive body of work, as diverse in mood and execution as in texture, the sand from each place dictating the quality of the surface. The physical locations became the stage for the weather and seasons to act out their dramas, each inspiring me with experiences that I could then transform onto the canvases using my hands as tools.
All artists have a need to 'create' and I am no exception if I find an interesting discarded piece of wood, metal, even concrete I try to use it in a sympathetic way to enhance its everyday presence by creating sculpture, furniture and paintings that will capture its unique form forever Jonty started creating furniture using driftwood and other found objects in 1992 while living at Sennen Cove in West Cornwall. His love for the sea and surfing have influenced his work although he also believes that everyone is influenced by everything through their senses in order to be alive whether consciously or sub-consciously, positively or negatively. Each piece is made to order, please contact Beyond the Sea to discuss.
Artist David Stansfield lives and works from his studio in Cornwall. He studied at Blackburn College of Art and Design and worked for many years as a Commercial Artist and Illustrator, illustrating children's books and providing greeting card designs for top publishers such as Hallmark. David's work has also been exhibited in New York and sold internationally. After moving to Cornwall several years ago, David was totally blown away and inspired by the awesome power and beauty of the creation around him. The corrosive and unpredictable nature, and it's effects on the non eternal and temporal things created by man is reflected in many of David's pieces. David now primarily paints in acrylics and works on materials reclaimed from old Cornish buildings, beaches and the surrounding coast and countryside of Cornwall. This gives each piece a totally unique edge with a strong physical connection to the county of Cornwall, also ensuring that no two are ever the same. These images are intended to give just a glimpse and flavour of David's "quirky" style of work. Pieces can be personalised (ie naming of boats) and commissions are always welcome.
Born and raised in Scotland Debbie left to study in London. Six years later after a holiday in Cornwall she moved to Penzance (1996) as it provided an idyllic environment in which to bring up her family.
In fulfilling her desire to live by the sea Debbie believes her artwork conveys her love of Cornwall with it’s calm pace of life and beautiful scenery. Inspired by her long walks through the coastal villages and the reflection of light on the sea, Debbie translates these images by using bold colour and simple shapes to express the unique tranquillity of Cornish life.I have been making these boats for two years now having spent many an hour sitting and walking around Padstow Harbour. To me they represent my interpretation of the fishing boats that you may find there. when sculpting each boat I tend to let them dictate their own form and try not to influence too much their shape, as this gives them their unique character. Each boat is completely bespoke,no two boats that I sculpt will ever be the same. Colours, shapes, stripes for example will always differ,as do the registration numbers that I give them. Commissions I can make you a boat of any colour or design that you wish to suit the decor of your home. Contact us to discuss.
Sometimes it takes just the one line, cutting into a space, to bring reality and the experience together. I work in acrylic and pencil on canvas, building up shape and colour by the application of layer upon layer of paint. I strive to achieve perfect balance in my paintings and am interested in reaching this through precision of composition, so that the perfect, almost geometric placing of an image on the canvas, is of the utmost importance. I hope to achieve an uncluttered simplicity which leaves much for the audience to read between the lines. Through this deceptive simplicity of mark, colour and composition I hope to shift the viewer’s perceptions of everyday objects and experiences and to encourage them to find the one thing which is significant to them. I make paintings about particular memories and experiences which I record in sketch-books. I try to isolate images in their painted world so that they stand as signifiers, like short poems, to convey those overwhelming moments of understanding and feeling that life can occasionally dish up. I edit out the extraneous so that the images stand alone, becoming metaphors for time and place and our emotional continuity. People are regularly intrigued by my titles which, although they relate intimately to each piece of work, are never an attempt to analyse or explain but are an echo, I hope, of the subtexts of all our emotional lives.
Michele Wright was educated both in France and England, finishing at the Wimbledon School of Art where she studied theatre design. From there Michele Wright worked as a costumier and designer in Edinburgh and at the National Theatre, London. Michele Wright moved to St. Ives in Cornwall in 1974 having been captivated by the small seaside town with its wealth of inspiration. Although Michele Wright has always worked in crafts and also drawn and painted, she finds the printmaking techniques the most fulfilling as it combines construction with drawing. Michele Wright particularly enjoys making collagraphs. A collagraph is a hand made print consisting of a build up of various textured materials, cut outs or engraving on cardboard, hardboard or metal. A collagraph plate is inked up as an intaglio print with ink in the recessions or as a relief print put through an etching press. Working in collaboration with poet Angela Stoner, Michele has recently had published a book entitled 'Once Upon a Blue Moon', a beautifully illustrated book telling the tale of a mermaid and a fisherman. Michele Wright is a member of Cornwall Crafts Association and an Associate Member of the Porthmeor Printmakers. Michele Wright supplies galleries nationwide.

Began career as a freelance illustrator and had lots of work published worldwide for a range of products including wallpaper designs, jigsaw puzzles, cards, giftwrap, calenders and books. My paintings are inspired by my life and living in Cornwall. I paint Cornish scenes with a naive simplicty and charm working from both sketches and imagination. My other paintings are full of symbolism depicting clothing, hearts, keys, wishes and words. they are connected with the important things in life-family,love,truth. things we can all identify with.
Tim Wright has lived and worked in Penzance and Newlyn since 1983. This has been interspersed with periods in London, Spain, America and the South Pacific where he continued his work. This collection of paintings is a small sample of the range of work he has undertaken, demonstrating not only his skill as a figurative painter but also his ability to apply influences ranging from Impressionism to Cubism. Not content to stick to one particular style. His formal training was undertaken at Southend College of Art and Design, where he studied Print making and illustration. His art reflects on the passion he has for wildlife, the sea and music. Widely travelled with an eye for rich colour and texture, he gathered inspiration from the extraordinary to the everyday "stuff" of life and produces paintings that have a universal appeal.
